Top 10 Layouts of 2014

As is my blogging tradition, here is my annual look back at my favourite 10 layouts that I made this past year.  I have definitely embraced mix media and this is evident by this year's selection. Experimenting with materials and techniques has lead to my making more cards, ATCs, as well as venturing into art journaling as I try a variety of new things.

In no particular order...

Thanks for sharing in my creative journey in 2014.  Wishing you much happiness and creativeness in 2015.

Happy New Year!

A Little Christmas Joy

Yeah for scrapping time!  I had a chance to scrap a layout today of a dear friend's adorable little daughter.  I used this month's Sassy Scrappers' December Mood Board as inspiration and then got all mixed media'd up...

Supplies: cardstock (wht - Canadian Scrapbooker Super Stock, blk - CTMH), patterned papers (Simple Stories), stencil (Tim Holtz), Distress paint (Tim Holtz by Ranger), post script stamp (Magenta), ink (Stamper's Big Brush by Faber-Castell), Silhouette Cameo digital cutter, glitter glue (Hampton Arts), glass filler (Ashland by Michaels), Star Dust Jelly Roll pen (Sakura), black pen (CTMH), marker (Sharpie), vellum (The Paper Company), aluminum foil (misc.), photos by A. Gore

stamping, stenciling, Silhouette cuts, hand doodling, fussy cutting and Simple Stories December Documented patterned papers.

I tried out some new things with this one.  The stars are made from aluminum foil, crinkled and glued onto cover stock, and then Silhouette Cameo cut.

The green glass accents are from Michaels. They were actually from their spring vase fillers collection from this year. I thought they would look cool on projects and they did not disappoint. I adhered them with gel medium.

The centre photo is printed on vellum to soften it to use as the background to part of the title.

Here is the gorgeous Mood Board that inspired my project.

Slowly but Surely

It has taken a while to finally get this art journal page finished. I started it at the end of the summer and then life got in the way. Just happy to be starting to get back to normal. Can't wait to be fully healed and have my energy back. Turns out this growth mindset quote was just what I needed at the time that I was initially making it.;

Supplies: 400 Series Watercolor Hardbound 11" Art Journal  (Strathmore), Peacock, Mowed lawn and Shaded Lilac Distress Inks, and Archival Ink (Ranger), Stamper's Big Brush (Faber-Castell), StazOn (Tsukineko), stitch stamp (CTMH), letter jumble stencil (Dylusions by Ranger), Distressed Quatre Foil stencil (The Crafter's Workshop), paint (Art Deco), gesso (Liquitex), letter stickers (Creative Memories), foam numbers used as stamps, lined paper pad page, and letter rub-ons (Dollarama)

In creating the background, I was solely in the mood to play with circles and watercolours and see where they took me. I then added in the stencils and splatters. I knew I wanted lots of layers but without bulk. I even used up some really old rub ons and stickers too which was a bonus. The quote was inspired by a quote in Flow Magazine's International number 5. It really suits my personality... I am very persistent and try, try, try again until I get it. That and the whole alphabet thing speaks to the kindergarten teacher in me. I tailored the quote down to fit the letters that I had and even then I had to hand draw a few using the sticker backing as a template.

This art journal page makes me feel good and brings a smile to my face. Love when that happens.
